The Best Birthday Present

So, I missed Happy Homemaker Monday yesterday, but I have a good excuse. At about 3:30 Monday morning I was having contractions close enough together that I was ready to head to the birth center. The minute we hung up with the midwife, I had a contraction and suddenly knew I would never make it downstairs, let alone thirty miles to the center. Things began to move fast. 911 was called, blankets and towels were laid out, the kids were awake and excited. I came really close to delivering right at home, but when a foot presented itself instead of a head, the paramedics insted we head to the hospital for an emergency C-section. Xavier Giovanni was born at 4:22 AM, happy and healthy. Today is my birthday and even though I'm stuck in the hospital, I got the best present ever!

Oklahoma- "A mall in downtown Tulsa gives shoppers and tourists a large area for strolling."

I would love to take a stroll in this pleasant plaza, but I suspect that if this place
still exists, the railings and benches are worn down from skateboard grinding, the
planters probably reek of urine, and that rad clock is permanently stuck on 12:23.

Olympic Games- How fitting that I should come across this article as we gear up for the next round of Games. "Mark Spitz, a U.S. swimmer, set a record in 1972 by winning seven gold medals in a single Olympics." That was thirteen years before Michael Phelps was born.

Here is a photo of one of the most famous gymnasts ever, Nadia Comaneci. She inspired
my idol, Mary Lou Retton, who won the Olympic All-Around title in 1984. Every
Olympic Games, the names change, but you always remember
your athlete and what they did.

Organ- "Electronic organs are popular in many homes. These organs occupy less space than pipe organs and they are easier to play." Today, electronic organs are only popular in thrift stores.

For reasons I can't explain, this picture reminds me of my Mormon relatives.

Happy Homemaker Monday

The Weather:::
Hot.

On my reading pile:::
Jurassic Park

On my tv:::
Probably a little Jeopardy

On the menu for this week:::
Its every man for himself. I'm not cooking until it cools off and I'm not pregnant.

On my to do list:::

Give birth (this is the same thing I had on my list last week, but I never got around to doing it.)

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
Nothing right now

Homemaking Tips:::
Train your family to do things. When you don't get around to doing something, you can bribe your children into helping. I'm not suggesting you should be lazy, of course, but the homemaker isn't the only one with useful hands. Give the kids a special treat when they do extra work.

Looking around the house:::
I'm not home this morning. I came to the shoe shine stand with Napoleon to help with a couple of things. This place really needs a woman's touch.

From the camera:::
I was hoping to have baby pictures today. Maybe next week. (This is the same thing I said last week. I figure I can only repeat it about two more times before I explode.)

New Hampshire- The Old Man Of The Mountain was the symbol of New Hampshire until it fell down in 2003.
This photo was included in the 'Places to Visit' section of the New Hampshire article.  After it fell,
do you think it was still included with an update, or just deleted from our collective conscious?

New Orleans- The French Quarter in New Orleans is old-fashioned looking to begin with, so the photo below could have been taken yesterday, but...

...the ad on the side of the trolley says, "Al Hirt is in Town."
When's the last time someone got excited about Al Hirt? Yep, 1978.

The Weather:::
There's not a cloud in the sky. It promises to get pretty toasty today. I see AC use in my future.
On my reading pile:::
I'm still working on Jurassic Park. If I could stay awake for longer than ten minutes when I sit down to relax, I could make some progress.

On my tv:::
I've really been enjoying lunch with Leave It To Beaver. The other day, Anthony said he likes it because Wally and The Beaver have some of the same problems that he has, and he likes to see how they solve them. Now if I could just figure out how June keeps the house so clean...

On the menu for this week:::
I left some days blank because those would be good times to have a baby. Or I might just be so frustrated by not having a baby that I order pizza.

Monday -  Tacos
Tuesday -  Cookie Monster's Me Stuffed Potatoes
Wednesday -
Thursday -
Friday -  Porcupine Meatballs
Saturday -
Sunday  -  Ravioli

On my to do list:::

Give birth

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
Crafts are on hold since I fall asleep so quickly when sitting down.
Homemaking Tips:::
With a man and two boys in the house, I never run out of old, mismatched, or holey socks. These make great rags. When I fold laundry, I pull out the socks that have seen better days and put them in the rag bag. For really nasty jobs you can just throw them away when you're done.
Looking around the house:::
I am alone today (yea!!!). Bobby's at preschool, and Anthony went to work with Napoleon. The house needs attention, but more that I am able to give it right now. The piles of toys and junk will have to wait until the people who put them there come home.
From the camera:::
I was hoping to have baby pictures today. Maybe next week.

Macrame- "A macrame purse is a decorative and inexpensive accessory. It was created by knotting pieces of string together."
I don't care what anyone says, that is a beautiful piece of art. Why would anyone pay hundreds of
dollars for a Coach or Louis Vuitton when they could make their own unique handbag?

Microfilm- Here is another thing that does not exist anymore. Hollywood has had to completely overhaul the espionage genre because plots can no longer be based on smuggling microfilm.

Remember when libraries had microfiche rooms? There's more information
on your smart phone than in a library's entire microfiche catalog.

Happy Homemaker Monday

The weather:::
Its absolutely dreary outside. Its dark and cloudy but these clouds don't promise any rain, just gloominess.

On my reading pile:::
Jurassic Park. It was on the shelf at my mother's house and I've been desperate for something to read. I got through two pages before I fell asleep. That has nothing to do with the quality of the book, but rather the quality of sleep I've been getting at night.

On my TV:::
Nothing planned. We might play a board game tonight.

On the menu for this week:::
Menu? What's that? I need to get back to my routines even though everything seems twice as difficult. My tummy is upset from all the junk food I've been eating because I haven't cooked any real food in a while. I just keep thinking I will go into labor in the middle of making a casserole so I don't bother.

On my to do list:::
Make and freeze extra dinners
Buy more mac & cheese
Install car seat
Pack bag for birth center
Gestate

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
I'm too anxious to sit still long enough to work on anything, and when I do, I fall asleep.

Looking around the house:::
There's a double extra large TV remote control on the kitchen floor. I don't know why. No need to describe the rest of the house; that about says it all.

From the camera:::
No pix this week. But stay tuned: you will be inundated with baby pictures soon.
